January is Crime Stoppers Month

Jan 11, 2019

Crime Stoppers is an international crime solving program that links with the public, the police and the media.   Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers covers the territory from Oyama to Peachland.  The program is operated by two very distinct entities:  the Regional District of Central Okanagan, whose employees run the daily operations of the program out of the Kelowna RCMP Detachment, and the Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers Society board of volunteers, who are in charge of fundraising and public awareness.

Crime Stoppers is all about anonymity - we don’t want your name or number.  Tipsters can either call in to our toll free line (1-800-222-8477(TIPS)) or submit information here on our website by clicking the "Submit a Tip" button.   The  phone lines do not have call display and are completely scrubbed of incoming call information, as are the web tips.  Tipsters are given a code number, which is the only information needed to update a tip or find out if they have earned a reward of up to $2000.  Tipsters never meet with Crime Stoppers staff to pick up their reward, it is paid anonymously through a third party business.

Since inception in 2007, Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers has received over 27,000 tips and has helped to solve almost 3800 cases.  445 rewards have been paid out to tipsters submitting information on files that have helped to recover over $88 million in drugs seized and almost $4.5 million in recovered property.

To keep up with the latest happenings and the newest wanted suspects follow us on our website, on Facebook at Crime Stoppers Central Okanagan or Twitter at KelownaCrimes.

January is the month designated as "Crime Stoppers Month" - the month we highlight our successes and thank our sponsors and supporters.  We couldn't be the amazing program we are without all of our partners!
